vaiśampāyana uvāca | kururāje hi raṅgasth(e) bhīme ca balināṁ vare | pakṣapātakṛtasnehaḥ sa dvidheva abhavaj janaḥ ||

வைசம்பாயனர் கூறினார்—ஓ ஜனமேஜயா! குரு இளவரசன் துரியோதனனும், வலிமைமிகு வீரர்களில் முதன்மையான பீமசேனனும் அரங்கில் இறங்கி கதாயுத்தத்தில் ஈடுபட்டபோது, பாகுபாடான பாசத்தால் தூண்டப்பட்ட மக்கள் கூட்டம் இரு அணிகளாகப் பிரிந்ததுபோல் தோன்றியது.
