Droṇa’s Ācārya-Dakṣiṇā: Capture of Drupada and Division of Pāñcāla (द्रोण-आचार्यदक्षिणा)
ततो दुर्योधनस्तत्र हृदयेन हसन्निव | कृतकृत्यमिवात्मानं मन्यते पुरुषाधम:
tato duryodhanas tatra hṛdayena hasann iva | kṛtakṛtyam ivātmānaṃ manyate puruṣādhamaḥ ||
அப்போது அங்கே துரியோதனன் உள்ளத்திலேயே சிரிப்பதுபோல்—அந்த மனிதாதமன்—தன் நோக்கம் நிறைவேறிவிட்டதெனத் தன்னை கृतகൃത்யனாக எண்ணினான். உள்ளே அவன் இதயம் கத்தி முனைபோல் கூர்மையானது; ஆனால் வெளியே அவன் சொற்கள் அமுதம் சொரிவதுபோல் இனிமையாக இருந்தன. சகோதரனாகவும் நல்வாழ்த்தும் நண்பனாகவும் நடித்து, பீமசேனனுக்குப் பலவகை உணவுகளைத் தானே பரிமாறினான். பீமன் உணவின் குற்றத்தை அறியாதவன்; ஆகவே துரியோதனன் எவ்வளவு பரிமாறினானோ அவ்வளவையும் முழுதாக உண்டான். இதைக் கண்ட கீழ்மையான துரியோதனன் மனத்திற்குள் மகிழ்ந்து தன்னை வெற்றியடைந்தவன் எனக் கருதினான்.
