Humility, Surrender, and the Power of the Name
rudra uvāca / yā vai taveśa bhagavanna vidāma bhūman bhaktirmamāstu śivapādasarojamūle / channāpi sā nanu sadā na mamāsti deva tenādruhaṃ tava viruddhamataḥ karomi
Rudra (Shiva)
Concept: Devotion can be intermittent due to inner veiling; acknowledging lapses and seeking realignment is itself a form of sincerity in bhakti.
Vedantic Theme: The tension of guṇa-bound mind vs. īśvara-anugraha; grace stabilizes bhakti beyond fluctuation.
Application: Practice self-audit (svādhyāya) of motives; when acting against conscience/ideal, confess, correct, and renew devotion through regular sādhana.
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: shanta

The verse presents bhakti as the stabilizing force that keeps one aligned with the Lord’s will; when devotion is not steady, one may drift into contrary actions even without ill intent.
Rudra admits that devotion is not always present in an active, steady way; due to that inconsistency (even if devotion exists in a concealed form), one can behave contrary to the Lord while lacking true enmity.
Treat spiritual lapses as signals to renew daily devotion—through prayer, remembrance, and disciplined conduct—so actions stay aligned with dharma rather than driven by inconsistency or distraction.
