गृहार्थी सदृशीं भार्यामुद्वहेदजुगुप्सिताम् । यवीयसीं तु वयसा यां सवर्णामनुक्रमात् ॥ ३९ ॥
gṛhārthī sadṛśīṁ bhāryām udvahed ajugupsitām yavīyasīṁ tu vayasā yāṁ sa-varṇām anu kramāt
இல்லறம் அமைக்க விரும்புவோர் தம் வர்ணத்திலேயே, குற்றமற்றதும் வயதில் இளையதுமான மனைவியை மணக்க வேண்டும். பல மனைவிகளை ஏற்க விரும்பினால் முதல் திருமணத்திற்குப் பின் வரிசையாக மணக்க வேண்டும்; ஒவ்வொரு மனைவியும் வரிசையாகக் குறைந்த வர்ணத்தினராக இருக்க வேண்டும்.
