उत्तमस्त्वकृतोद्वाहो मृगयायां बलीयसा । हत: पुण्यजनेनाद्रौ तन्मातास्य गतिं गता ॥ ३ ॥
uttamas tv akṛtodvāho mṛgayāyāṁ balīyasā hataḥ puṇya-janenādrau tan-mātāsya gatiṁ gatā
துருவ மகாராஜனின் இளைய சகோதரன் உத்தமன் இன்னும் திருமணம் ஆகாதவன்; ஒருமுறை வேட்டைக்குச் சென்று இமயத்தில் வலிமைமிக்க யக்ஷனால் கொல்லப்பட்டான். அவனுடைய தாய் சுருசியும் மகனின் பாதையைத் தொடர்ந்து உயிர் நீத்தாள்।
