इति तूष्णीं स्थितान्दैत्यान् विलोक्य पुरुषोत्तम: । स्मयमानो विसृज्याग्रं पुच्छं जग्राह सामर: ॥ ४ ॥
iti tūṣṇīṁ sthitān daityān vilokya puruṣottamaḥ smayamāno visṛjyāgraṁ pucchaṁ jagrāha sāmaraḥ
இவ்வாறு அசுரர்கள் மௌனமாக நின்று தேவர்களின் விருப்பத்துக்கு எதிர்த்தனர். அவர்களின் நோக்கத்தை அறிந்த புருஷோத்தமன் புன்னகைத்தான். விவாதமின்றி முன்பகுதியை விட்டுவிட்டு பாம்பின் வாலைப் பற்றினார்; தேவர்கள் அவரைத் தொடர்ந்து சென்றனர்.
