Aftermath of Gajendra’s Deliverance: Hūhū’s Release, Indradyumna’s Curse, and Sārūpya-mukti
स वै पूर्वमभूद् राजा पाण्ड्यो द्रविडसत्तम: । इन्द्रद्युम्न इति ख्यातो विष्णुव्रतपरायण: ॥ ७ ॥
sa vai pūrvam abhūd rājā pāṇḍyo draviḍa-sattamaḥ indradyumna iti khyāto viṣṇu-vrata-parāyaṇaḥ
இந்த கஜேந்திரன் முன்பு திராவிடப் பகுதியில் உள்ள பாண்டிய நாட்டின் அரசனாக இருந்தான். அவன் ‘இந்திரத்யும்ன மகாராஜா’ என்று புகழ்பெற்று, விஷ்ணு விரதத்தில் நிலைத்த வைஷ்ணவனாக இருந்தான்.
He is described as a former Pāṇḍya king, the foremost among the Draviḍas, famed for being fully devoted to vows and observances dedicated to Lord Viṣṇu.
“Viṣṇu-vrata” refers to sacred vows, disciplines, and devotional observances performed specifically to please Lord Viṣṇu, indicating exclusive dedication to Him.
By adopting consistent, Viṣṇu-centered practices—such as regular prayer, ethical living, and devotional vows—so that one’s daily disciplines become an expression of steady bhakti.
