सप्त च्छन्दांसि चतुरुत्तराण्यन्यो अन्यस्मिन्नध्यार्पितानि । कथं स्तोमाः प्रति तिष्ठन्ति तेषु तानि स्तोमेषु कथमार्पितानि

IAST Transliteration

saptá chándāṃsi caturuttarā́ṇy anyó anyásminn adhyārpitā́ni | katháṃ stomā́ḥ práti tiṣṭhanti téṣu tā́ni stoméṣu kathám ārpitā́ni ||

English Translation (Griffith/Whitney)

Seven are the metres, with four as their over-addition, each upon the other set and fastened. How stand the chants in answer within them? and those metres—how are they fastened within the chants?

Translation

ஏழு சந்தஸ்கள் உள்ளன; அவற்றின் மேலாக நான்கு (அதிகச் சேர்க்கை) உண்டு; ஒன்று மற்றொன்றின் மீது பதியப்பட்டும் உறுதியாகப் பிணைக்கப்பட்டும் உள்ளன. அவற்றில் ஸ்தோமங்கள் (ஸ்துதிப் பாடல்கள்) பதிலுரையாக எவ்வாறு நிலைபெறுகின்றன? மேலும் அந்தச் சந்தஸ்கள்—ஸ்தோமங்களில் எவ்வாறு பிணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன?
