இந்தச் சுருக்கமான ஆத்தர்வணப் பாடல், குணப்படுத்தும்/காக்கும் மூலிகை-சக்தியாக உருவகப்படுத்தப்பட்ட அருந்ததி (ஓஷதி) யை அழைத்து, மாடுச்செல்வம்—எருதுகள், பால் தரும் பசுக்கள், பால் இல்லா (உலர்) பசுக்கள், கன்றுகள், மேலும் முழு நால்காலி மந்தை—இவற்றை காத்து மீட்டெழச் செய்ய வேண்டுகிறது. பால் வளம் நிறைந்த, நோயற்ற தொழுவத்தைக் கோருகிறது; அதே பாதுகாப்பை மனித இல்லத்திற்கும் நீட்டி, ருத்ரனின் அஞ்சத்தக்க ‘ஏவுகணை/அம்பு’ (திடீர் மிருகநோய்/தொற்று-வியாதி) யை விரட்டுமாறு வேண்டுகிறது. ஆத்தர்வவேதத்தின் இல்லவழி மரபில், இந்த மந்திரம் தானே பாராயணம் மற்றும் எளிய மூலிகைச் சடங்கின் மூலம் தொழுவத்திலும் மந்தையிலும் பதியப்படும் பாதுகாப்புச் சார்ஜாக (காப்புக் கட்டளையாக) செயல்படுகிறது.

औषधिः। अ॒न॒डुद्भ्य॒स्त्वं प्र॑थ॒मं धे॒नुभ्य॒स्त्वम॑रुन्धति । अधे॑नवे॒ वय॑से॒ शर्म॑ यच्छ॒ चतु॑ष्पदे
ஓ மூலிகையே! எருதுகளுக்குத் तू முதன்மையானது; பால் தரும் பசுக்களுக்குத் तू—அருந்ததி—ஆகிறாய். பால் தராதவளுக்கும், இளமையுள்ளவளுக்கும், நால்காலி மந்தைக்கும் तू அடைக்கலமும் பாதுகாப்பும் அளிப்பாயாக.

शर्म॑ यच्छ॒त्वोष॑धिः स॒ह दे॒वीर॑रुन्ध॒ती। कर॒त् पय॑स्वन्तं गो॒ष्ठम॑य॒क्ष्मां उ॒त पूरु॑षान्
அருந்ததி எனும் மூலிகை, தேவீ-மூலிகைகளுடன் சேர்ந்து, அடைக்கலமும் பாதுகாப்பும் அளிப்பதாக. அவள் கோஷ்டம் (கோசாலை) பால் வளமுடையதாகச் செய்யட்டும்; யக்ஷ்மா (க்ஷய/சிதைக்கும் நோய்) இல்லாததாகச் செய்யட்டும்; மனிதர்களையும் (நோயின்றி) காக்கட்டும்.

वि॒श्वरू॑पां सु॒भगा॑म॒च्छाव॑दामि जीव॒लाम्। सा नो॑ रु॒द्रस्या॒स्तां हे॒तिं दू॒रं न॑यतु॒ गोभ्यः॑
எல்லா ரூபங்களும் உடைய, சுபமளிப்பவள், உயிரளிப்பவள் ஆகிய (தேவியை) இங்கே நோக்கி நான் வாக்கால் அழைக்கிறேன். அவள் எங்களுக்காக ருத்ரனுடைய அந்த ஹேதி/அம்பை மாடுகளிலிருந்து வெகுதூரம் அகற்றட்டும்.
