निरिमां मात्रां मिमीमहे यथापरं न मासातै । शते शरत्सु नो पुरा

IAST Transliteration

nírīmā́ṃ mā́trāṃ mimīmahe yáthā́paraṃ ná mā́sātai | śaté śáratsu no purā́

English Translation (Griffith/Whitney)

Out this measure we do mete, that it be not thereafter spent in months: a hundred autumns—so for us, as in the days of old.

Translation

நாம் இந்த ‘மாத்ரா’வை வெளியே நோக்கி அளக்கிறோம்; பின்னர் அது மாதங்களால் சிதைந்து போகாதபடி. நமக்காக—பழங்காலம்போல்—நூறு சரத் காலங்கள் உண்டாகட்டும்.
