Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Jyotirlinga: Viśvanātha
Sthala Purana: As a phalaśruti, it mirrors Kashi’s broader promise of purification and fulfillment through contact with Śiva’s teaching and presence; here, śravaṇa/pāṭha itself becomes a mode of worship.
Significance: Śravaṇa and pāṭha of Śiva-oriented instruction purify pāpa and support dhārmic kāma; ultimately it orients the soul toward Śiva’s liberating grace.
It states the phalaśruti: sincere recitation or attentive listening purifies the individual (pāśa—bondage of sin and impurity) and aligns the mind toward Shiva, yielding both inner cleansing and auspicious results.
In the Vidyeshvara context, devotion expressed through śravaṇa (hearing) and pāṭha (recitation) is itself a form of worship, supporting Saguna Shiva-bhakti and preparing the seeker for deeper realization of Shiva beyond form.
Regular, focused reading or listening with a calm mind—ideally alongside japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple Shaiva observances—embodies the practice implied by this verse.
