Sthala Purana: Not a jyotirliṅga episode; the verse presents Śiva as the supreme governor who appoints cosmic functions—Varāha for overcoming a specific durita and Viṣṇu as lokarakṣaka.
It teaches that spiritual negligence (ālasyā) becomes a doorway for durita (harmful karma), and that the Supreme Lord (Śiva) compassionately establishes divine means—incarnations and cosmic guardianship—to restore dharma and uplift beings.
By portraying Śiva as the supreme governor who appoints cosmic roles, the verse supports Saguna Śiva devotion: worship of the Liṅga recognizes Śiva as the source behind all protective and restorative powers in the universe, including Viṣṇu’s preserving function.
The practical takeaway is to conquer ālasyā through steady sādhana—daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and disciplined worship—so that sin born of negligence is checked at its root.
