Post–Dakṣa-Yajña Developments and the Appeal to Viṣṇu
स्वयंभुवे नमस्कृत्य मह्यं संस्तूय भूरिशः । तत्स्वक्लेशं विशेषेण कार्त्स्येनैव न्यवेदयन्
svayaṃbhuve namaskṛtya mahyaṃ saṃstūya bhūriśaḥ | tatsvakleśaṃ viśeṣeṇa kārtsyenaiva nyavedayan
स्वयम्भुवे नमस्कृत्वा मह्यं च भूरिशः स्तुत्वा । ततः स्वक्लेशं विशेषेण कार्त्स्येनैव न्यवेदयत् ॥
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
The verse highlights the Shaiva ethic of humility and truthfulness: one approaches the higher power with reverence, praises the divine, and then openly discloses one’s inner affliction—an attitude that prepares the soul (paśu) to receive grace (anugraha).
Although the Linga is not named here, the devotional pattern is the same as in Saguna worship: first namaskāra and stuti (reverent praise), then a sincere submission of one’s condition—mirroring how devotees petition Shiva before the Linga with devotion and clarity of intent.
A practical takeaway is stuti followed by self-offering: begin with respectful salutations and a short Shiva-stotra, then inwardly state your suffering truthfully as part of prayer; mentally pair it with japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” as a confession-and-surrender practice.
