Type: stotra
It uses a natural image—spotless, shining water—to point to a Shaiva ideal: when mala (impurity) is removed, consciousness becomes luminous, like a sage’s mind where spiritual light clearly arises.
Linga-worship in the Shiva Purana emphasizes śauca (purity) and inner clarity; the verse implies that devotion and disciplined practice cleanse the heart so Shiva’s presence (jyoti) becomes manifest within, not merely as an outer ritual.
Practice purification and meditation: bathe and worship with a clean mind, apply Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) as a reminder of removing mala, and repeat the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” until inner stillness and clarity arise.
