विष्णोः स्तुतिः—शिवसतीरक्षावचनम्
Viṣṇu’s Hymn and the Petition for Śiva–Satī’s Protection
तदानीमद्भुतं तत्र चरितं समभूदति । सुविस्मयकरं तात तच्छृणु त्वं वदामि ते
tadānīmadbhutaṃ tatra caritaṃ samabhūdati | suvismayakaraṃ tāta tacchṛṇu tvaṃ vadāmi te
तदानीं तत्रात्यद्भुतं चरितं समभूदिति। सुविस्मयकरं तात, तच्छृणु त्वं वदामि ते॥
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages, in the Shiva Purana’s standard dialogue frame)
Tattva Level: pati
Sthala Purana: This is a narrative hinge: the narrator announces an exceedingly wondrous event (carita) and invites attentive listening—typical Purāṇic ‘rahasya’ disclosure structure rather than a site-specific sthala-purāṇa.
Significance: Śravaṇa (devotional listening) is implicitly valorized; attentive hearing of Śiva-kathā is traditionally held to confer puṇya and readiness for grace (anugraha).
Role: teaching
The verse highlights śravaṇa (devotional listening) to sacred Shaiva narration: wonder (adbhuta/vismaya) softens the ego and turns the mind toward Pati (Shiva), preparing the listener for deeper bhakti and insight.
By inviting attentive listening to Shiva’s wondrous līlā, the text nurtures saguna-bhakti—devotion to Shiva’s manifest actions and grace—which traditionally supports steady worship such as Linga-pūjā and remembrance of Shiva’s qualities.
The implied practice is śravaṇa and smaraṇa: hear the Purana with focused attention and contemplate its meaning; this can be paired with mental japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) while listening.
