अयं संक्षिप्तः, अत्यन्तं प्रतीकात्मकः सूक्तः विचित्रवर्णप्रभायुक्तस्य “गवः” (प्रकाशस्य) गमनं निरूपयति—यत् प्रायः उषाः वा सूर्यस्य दीप्तिः इति व्याख्यायते—सा मातुः (पृथिव्याः) पुरतः पदं निधाय पितरं (द्यां/दिवं) प्रति प्रसरति। ततः सः विश्वशक्तिं वर्णयति या “निःश्वसति च पुनः प्रश्वसति च”, लयबद्धगत्या दिवं प्रकाशयन्ती। अन्ते सौरस्य “पतङ्गस्य” दर्शनं भवति, यस्मिन् वाक् (शब्दः) निहिता; सः प्रत्यूषसि प्रतिदिनं च बहुषु लोकेषु दीप्तिं वितन्वन् विराजते।

In Vedic poetry, the cow often symbolizes nourishing abundance and rays of light. Here the “variegated cow” is a vivid image for dawn or solar illumination that ‘gives’ vision and life.
