This sopāna is the ‘beauty of bhakti in motion’: devotion becomes effective action (sevā + śaraṇāgati). In the presented unit, the staircase-step is crossed through Vibhīṣaṇa’s renunciation of adharma, his leap from fear to refuge, and Rāma’s public vow of protection—turning ethics (nīti) into liberation-logic (mokṣa via surrender).
अत्र रसः रौद्र-करुणा-शान्तानां वेणीरूपः, अन्ते अद्भुत-पर्यवसानः। रौद्रः विभीषणं प्रति रावणस्य अपमान-हिंसयोः प्रकटते; करुणा स्व-स्वजनात् धर्मात्मनः निर्वासनात्; शान्तः विभीषणस्य अन्तर्वैराग्ये, यदा सः राज्यं त्यक्त्वा शरणं वृणोति; अद्भुतः तु रामस्य तत्क्षण-आलिङ्गने, यत् राजकीय-आश्रयं आध्यात्मिक-दीक्षारूपे परिवर्तयति। तत्त्वतः तुलसीदासः ‘नीतिं’ ‘भक्तेः’ अधीनां स्थापयति: शरणागति-विहीना नीति भीतिरूपे पतति, शरणागति तु राक्षस-देहमपि कृपा-योग्यतां नयति। दोहाः सिद्धान्त-कीलका इव—विशेषतः रामस्य प्रतिज्ञा, यत् यः कश्चन महापापीऽपि सन् यदा सन्मुखः भूत्वा तं शरणं गच्छति, तदा रक्षणं निवारयितुं न शक्यते। अतः सुन्दरकाण्डः न केवलं लङ्कां प्रति सेतुः, अपि तु अहङ्कारात् प्रभोः निज-जनत्वं प्रति सेतुः।
