The Token of Recognition (Chūḍāmaṇi) and the Crow Episode Recalled
प्रतिगृह्य ततो वीरो मणिरत्नमनुत्तमम्।अङ्गुल्या योजयामास न ह्यस्य प्राभवद्भुजः।।5.38.70।।
pratigṛhya tato vīro maṇi-ratnam anuttamam |
aṅgulyā yojayāmāsa na hy asya prābhavad bhujaḥ ||5.38.70||
ततः स वीरोऽनुत्तमं मणिरत्नं प्रतिगृह्य अङ्गुल्यां योजयामास; अस्य भुजे तु न प्राभवत्।
Hanuman stood there physically, with great joy gazing at Sita, but mentally he was with Rama.
Dharma as careful stewardship: Hanuman treats the entrusted token with practical care, preserving it as evidence for truth.
After receiving Sita’s jewel, Hanuman adjusts it to a safe, fitting place (his finger) for carrying it back.
