Bhīṣma’s Appraisal of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Dharmic Rule (भीष्मोक्त-युधिष्ठिर-राजधर्म-प्रशंसा)
शुद्धात्मा गुणवान् पार्थ: सत्यवान् नीतिमान् शुचि: । तेजोराशिरसंख्येयो गृह्लीयादपि चक्षुषा,“दुन्तीपुत्र युधिष्ठिर शुद्धचित्त, गुणवान्, सत्यवानू, नीतिमान्, पवित्र और तेजके पुंज हैं; अतः उन्हें पहचानना असम्भव है। आँखोंसे दीख जानेपर भी वे मनुष्यको मोह लेंगे-- पहचाने नहीं जा सकेंगे
śuddhātmā guṇavān pārthaḥ satyavān nītimān śuciḥ | tejorāśir asaṅkhyeyo gṛhlīyād api cakṣuṣā ||
वैशम्पायन उवाच— शुद्धात्मा गुणवान् पार्थः सत्यवान् नीतिमान् शुचिः। तेजोराशिरसंख्येयो गृह्यलीयादपि चक्षुषा— न तु यथावत् परिचीयेत॥
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Moral excellence—purity, truth, and principled conduct—creates a kind of inner radiance that commands respect and can even ‘overpower’ perception; true worth is not always easily identified merely by outward appearance.
In the Virāṭa Parva context of concealment and uncertain recognition, the narrator highlights the exceptional qualities of the son of Pṛthā (understood here as Yudhiṣṭhira): even if seen directly, his luminous virtue could confound observers, making straightforward recognition difficult.
