Bhadravaṭa Procession and Skanda’s Neutralization of Mahiṣa
bṛhadrathasya praṇidhiḥ kāśyapasya mahattaraḥ | bhānur aṅgirasaḥ dhīraḥ putro varcasya saubharaḥ ||
The verse emphasizes the continuity of dharmic and spiritual inheritance: descendants are presented as arising from the ‘aṃśa’ (portion) of revered ancestors, suggesting that virtue, authority, and sacred potency are transmitted through lineage and disciplined tradition.
Mārkaṇḍeya is recounting a genealogical sequence, naming sons and associating each with an earlier eminent figure (Bṛhadratha, Kaśyapa, Aṅgiras, Varcas), thereby situating the characters within a recognized rishi/royal lineage framework.
