pautre bhāraṃ samāveśya jagāma tridivaṃ tadā | aṃśumān api dharmātmā mahīṃ sāgaramekhalām |
The verse highlights dharmic kingship: a ruler must responsibly transfer authority and ensure continuity of righteous governance, treating sovereignty as a duty (bhāra) rather than a personal possession.
King Sagara, after completing his reign, entrusts the kingdom to his grandson Aṃśumān and departs to heaven; Aṃśumān then continues to protect and govern the earth encircled by the ocean.
