Dharma is upheld through disciplined learning and conduct: rigorous brahmacarya, faithful service to the teacher, righteous study of the Vedas and statecraft, and a fourfold reverence—hospitality to guests, rites for ancestors, devotion to seers through vows of study, and worship of the gods through excellent sacrifices.
Ambarīṣa describes his own formation and practice: he recounts how he trained under a guru, mastered Vedic learning and royal policy, and then lived a life of continual religious and social duty—feeding guests, performing śrāddha for ancestors, maintaining svādhyāya-based vows honoring the ṛṣis, and conducting high-grade yajñas to worship the devas.
