Educational Q&A

True victory begins with inner conquest: restraining the five senses is the essence of self-mastery, and such self-control is presented as the foundation for effective and righteous rule.

In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma and governance, Bhishma advises the ruler that success against external foes depends first on conquering internal impulses—especially the senses—so that judgment and action remain steady.
