सुरापाने च सक्तानां ब्राह्मणानां दुरात्मनाम् । गुरुदारप्रसक्तानां गतिं विज्ञाय चाशुभाम्,मदिरापानमें आसक्त दुरात्मा ब्राह्मणोंकी तथा गुरुपत्नीगामी मनुष्योंकी जो अशुभ गति होती है, उसका भी विचार करे
surāpāne ca saktānāṁ brāhmaṇānāṁ durātmanām | gurudāraprasaktānāṁ gatiṁ vijñāya cāśubhām ||
सुरापाने सक्तानां दुरात्मनाम् ब्राह्मणानां, गुरुदारप्रसक्तानां च, अशुभां गतिं सम्यग् विज्ञाय, तदनुष्ठानात् विरमेत्।
भीष्म उवाच
The verse urges moral discernment: understand that addiction to intoxicants and violating the sanctity of the teacher’s household lead to an inauspicious destiny; therefore one should avoid such acts and cultivate restraint.
In Shanti Parva’s dharma instruction, Bhishma is advising on right conduct by citing examples of grave transgressions—liquor-addiction and pursuing the guru’s wife—and warning of their harmful consequences.
