घटमाना मदर्थेडस्मिन् हता: शूरा जनाधिपा: । शेरते लोहिताक्ताड़्ा: संग्रामे शरविक्षता:,“कितने ही वीर नरेश मेरी विजयके लिये यथाशक्ति चेष्टा करते हुए बाणोंसे क्षत-विक्षत हो मारे जाकर रक्तरंजित शरीरसे संग्रामभूमिमें सो रहे हैं
ghaṭamānā madarthe 'smin hatāḥ śūrā janādhipāḥ | śerate lohitāktāṅgāḥ saṅgrāme śaravikṣatāḥ ||
सञ्जय उवाच— मदर्थेऽस्मिन् संग्रामे यथाशक्ति घटमाना बहवः शूरा जनाधिपाः हताः। शरैर्विक्षताः लोहिताक्ताङ्गाः ते रणभूमौ शेरते।
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the moral weight of kings seeking victory through war: even when warriors act with loyalty and valor, the outcome is bloodshed and death, reminding the listener that triumph is purchased at a grave human cost.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that many heroic rulers, fighting earnestly for his side’s success, have been killed; their arrow-torn, blood-smeared bodies now lie on the battlefield.
