तपस्विनो धर्मपथे स्थितस्य द्विजसत्तम । “धर्मज्ञ ब्राह्मण! आप किसलिये नृत्य कर रहे हैं? मुने! आपके लिये अधिक हर्षका कौन-सा कारण उपस्थित हो गया है? द्विजश्रेष्ठू आप तो तपस्वी हैं, सदा धर्मके मार्गपर स्थित रहते हैं, फिर आप क्यों हर्षसे उन्मत्त हो रहे हैं?”
tapasvino dharmapathe sthitasya dvijasattama | “dharmajña brāhmaṇa! āpa kisaliye nṛtya kara rahe haiṃ? mune! āpake liye adhika harṣakā kaun-sā kāraṇa upasthita ho gayā hai? dvijaśreṣṭha! āpa to tapasvī haiṃ, sadā dharmake mārgapar sthita rahate haiṃ, phira āpa kyoṃ harṣase unmatt ho rahe haiṃ?”

वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical expectation that a tapasvī and dharma-jña brāhmaṇa remains steady and self-controlled; sudden exuberant behavior invites scrutiny, implying that even joy should be aligned with dharma and inner discipline.
Vaiśaṃpāyana describes someone addressing an ascetic brāhmaṇa-sage who is unexpectedly dancing in great joy, asking what remarkable event has caused such delight despite his usual dharmic steadiness.
