Arjuna’s evacuation of Dvārakā, Vasudeva’s rites, and the caravan’s crisis

punareṣyanti te haste yadā kālo bhaviṣyati | tava astrāśastrāṇāṃ prayojanam api pūrṇaṃ gataṃ; tasmāt te yathā prāptāḥ tathāiva gatāḥ | yadā tu yuktaḥ samayo bhaviṣyati tadā te punaḥ tava haste āgamiṣyanti || kālo gantuṃ gatiṃ mukhyāṃ bhavatām api bhārata |

Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes the sovereignty of Kāla (Time/Destiny): instruments of power such as weapons are not permanently ‘owned’ but are granted and withdrawn according to purpose. When their dharmic function is complete, they depart; when the proper time returns, they may return. Even the greatest are subject to Time’s supreme course.

Vyāsa consoles and instructs the addressed Bhārata figure by explaining why the weapons have disappeared or are no longer available: their role has been completed. He assures that, when the appropriate occasion arises, they will come back, while also reminding that all events unfold under the unstoppable movement of Time.
