Arjuna’s evacuation of Dvārakā, Vasudeva’s rites, and the caravan’s crisis
vināṣṭāḥ kuruśārṭūla na tān śocitum arhasi | bhavitavyaṃ tathā tac ca diṣṭam etan mahātmanām |
Vyāsa urges restraint in grief by pointing to inevitability (bhavitavya) and what is ordained (diṣṭa): when events unfold through destiny and prior causality, one should uphold steadiness rather than be overwhelmed by lamentation.
After the catastrophic end of the Vṛṣṇi and Andhaka heroes, Vyāsa addresses a Kuru leader, explaining that their destruction occurred through the brāhmaṇas’ curse and was fated; therefore, mourning them is discouraged.
