Adhyāya 41 — Kṛṣṇa’s Battlefield Briefing and the Renewal of the Great Engagement
ऊरुप्रभेदाच्च महान् बभूव शरीरतो मे घनशोणितौघ: । गुरोर्भयाच्चापि न चेलिवानहं ततो विबुद्धों ददृशे स विप्र:
ūruprabhedāc ca mahān babhūva śarīrato me ghanaśoṇitaughaḥ | guror bhayāc cāpi na celivān ahaṃ tato vibuddho dadṛśe sa vipraḥ ||
ऊरुप्रभेदाच्च महान् बभूव शरीरतो मे घनशोणितौघः। गुरोर्भयाच्चापि न चेलिवानहं ततो विबुद्धो ददृशे स विप्रः॥
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights rigorous self-control and the weight of the guru-śiṣya ethic: the disciple endures severe pain and even bleeding rather than risk disturbing the teacher, showing how fear of violating duty can override bodily distress.
A disciple suffers a piercing wound in the thigh, causing heavy bleeding, but remains motionless so the sleeping teacher will not awaken; when the teacher finally wakes, he notices the blood and the injury.
