nārada uvāca | diṣṭyāpahṛtaśoka stvaṁ vṛṇīṣveha yad icchasi | tat tat prapatsyase sarvaṁ na mṛṣāvādino vayam ||
The verse foregrounds satya (truthfulness) as a defining mark of a ṛṣi: Nārada assures that his promise is reliable because the wise do not speak falsehood. Ethical speech becomes the foundation for trust, counsel, and the granting of boons.
Nārada addresses a king whose grief has subsided and invites him to ask for any desired boon, promising fulfillment and reinforcing the credibility of that promise by declaring that he and his kind are not liars.
