द्रोणपर्व — अध्याय २७: सुशर्माह्वानम्, अर्जुनस्य प्रतिनिवर्तनम्, भगदत्तेन गजप्रहारः
संशप्तकांस्ततो हत्वा भूयिष्ठा ये व्यवस्थिता: । भगदत्ताय याहीति कृष्णं पार्थो&भ्यनोदयत्,इस प्रकार वहाँ खड़े हुए संशप्तक योद्धाओंमेंसे अधिकांशका वध करके अर्जुनने भगवान् श्रीकृष्णसे कहा--“अब भगदत्तके पास चलिये”
saṁśaptakāṁs tato hatvā bhūyiṣṭhā ye vyavasthitāḥ | bhagadattāya yāhīti kṛṣṇaṁ pārtho 'bhyanodayat ||
संशप्तकांस्ततो हत्वा भूयिष्ठा ये व्यवस्थिता: । भगदत्ताय याहीति कृष्णं पार्थोऽभ्यनोदयत् ॥
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined action in dharmic warfare: Arjuna completes the immediate duty (neutralizing the vowed Saṁśaptakas) and then promptly redirects effort toward the next critical threat. It also reflects reliance on Kṛṣṇa’s guidance—ethical resolve expressed through focused, purposeful strategy rather than impulsive violence.
Sañjaya reports that Arjuna has killed most of the Saṁśaptaka fighters positioned against him. After overcoming them, Arjuna instructs Kṛṣṇa, his charioteer, to drive toward Bhagadatta, indicating a shift of attention to confronting that powerful enemy next.
