Educational Q&A

The verse is primarily descriptive rather than prescriptive: it conveys the overwhelming, almost cosmic scale of the war’s momentum. By likening the army’s uproar to the churning ocean, it hints that collective agitation and desire for victory can unleash forces that feel larger than human control—inviting reflection on restraint and the moral weight of war.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the noise from the Kaurava host became immense and astonishing, like the thunderous sound produced when the ocean is churned. It sets the battlefield mood—massed troops, rising commotion, and the sense of an extraordinary confrontation.
