The verse underscores how war can unleash overwhelming, almost cosmic forms of violence and fear; ethical discernment is tested when power expands beyond ordinary human scale, and the witness (Sañjaya) frames the event with awe to highlight its gravity.
Sañjaya reports that a mighty figure becomes visible in an immense, mountain-like form, compared to Mount Maināka; the accompanying description (hundred heads and hundred bellies) intensifies the sense of a terrifying, superhuman manifestation on the battlefield.
