Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the stark moral and psychological reality of war: even a great warrior can appear ‘already seized by death’ when confronting overwhelming force. It underscores human judgment under fear and the ever-present certainty of mortality on the battlefield.

Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that Dhrishtadyumna, standing before six leading champions of the Kaurava host, seemed to them as if he had entered the jaws of death—an expression of how perilous his position appeared at that moment.
