Bhīmasena and Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s Speeches on Kṣātra-Dharma
tato hāhākṛtaṃ sainyaṃ tava sarva janādhipa | hataṃ saṃmenire sarve tāvakās taṃ viśāṃpate ||

The verse highlights how, in war, perception can overpower reality: rumor and sudden belief can collapse morale and drive collective decisions. Ethically, it warns that unverified claims—especially about life and death—can become instruments that manipulate outcomes and intensify adharma.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that a great outcry arose in the Kaurava host because the warriors came to believe that Aśvatthāmā had been killed. This marks a turning point in battlefield mood, signaling shock and confusion across the army.
