Chapter 136: Pandava Counter-Encirclement and the Vāyavya-Astra Disruption
सुमुखीैर्दुर्मुख॑ भीम: शरैर्निन्ये यमक्षयम् | राजन! फिर झुकी हुई गाँठवाले नौ सुमुख बाणोंद्वारा भीमसेनने दुर्मुखको उसी क्षण यमलोक पहुँचा दिया
sañjaya uvāca | sumukhair durmukhaṃ bhīmaḥ śarair ninye yamakṣayam | rājan |
सञ्जय उवाच— राजन्, भीमः सुमुखैर्नाम शरैर्दुर्मुखं समाहत्य तस्मिन्नेव क्षणे यमस्याक्षयधाम निनाय।
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the stark moral atmosphere of the Kurukṣetra war: in the execution of kṣatriya-duty, death comes swiftly and decisively, and every act of violence carries the sense of final reckoning under Yama—reminding the listener that worldly power ends in mortality.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Bhīma strikes Durmukha with Sumukha arrows and kills him instantly, sending him to Yama’s realm.
