Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes steadiness and freedom from fear in crisis, framed as royal duty: a king should not succumb to panic when reliable counsel and timely intelligence are available. It also highlights the ethical value of trustworthy information (āptaiḥ) in making decisions during war.

Sañjaya reassures Dhṛtarāṣṭra that he need not fear, using hyperbolic praise (“even Viṣṇu with the gods could not seize you in battle”). He then notes that Droṇa’s intended plan (cikīrṣitam) has been quickly learned through trusted agents, signaling that the opposing side’s strategy is being understood and countered.
