Bhūriśravas–Sātyaki Saṃvāda and Duel; Arjuna’s Intervention
sātyakir vāriyāmāsa veleva makarālayam | sahasā ātmanaḥ oraṃ āgacchantaṃ magadharājasya taṃ gajarājaṃ sātyakinā tathaiva ruddhaḥ, yathā taṭakī bhūmiḥ samudram ruddhvā tiṣṭhati |
The verse highlights disciplined strength: true martial excellence is not mere aggression but the capacity to restrain a sudden, dangerous force at the right moment, protecting one’s side and maintaining order amid chaos.
Sanjaya describes Satyaki halting the onrushing war-elephant belonging to the king of Magadha. The action is compared to the shoreline holding back the sea, emphasizing Satyaki’s steadiness and effective resistance.
