As a chapter-colophon, the verse does not teach a doctrine directly; it frames the ethical pressure of warfare by signaling a chapter focused on Yudhiṣṭhira’s flight/retreat—inviting reflection on when withdrawal may be strategic and duty-aligned rather than merely fearful.
This is the formal closing statement of the 106th chapter within Droṇa Parva’s Jayadratha-slaying section, indicating that the chapter’s subject matter concerned Yudhiṣṭhira’s flight/retreat and that the chapter has ended.
