Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s appraisal of Vāsudeva’s deeds
dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca yaḥ sa udyann ivādityaḥ jyotiṣā praṇudaṃs tamaḥ | ajātaśatrum āyāntaṃ kas taṃ droṇād avārayat ||
The verse frames Yudhiṣṭhira’s dharmic stature as ‘light’ that dispels ‘darkness,’ implying that moral authority and inner clarity can steady others amid war; it also highlights the ethical tension of restraining a righteous leader in a battlefield situation.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra asks who prevented Yudhiṣṭhira—praised as radiant like the rising sun—from advancing to Droṇa, indicating a tactical or strategic obstruction during the Drona Parva battle events.
