The verse highlights the ethical tension of war: a young yet capable warrior confronts a revered elder-teacher. It invites reflection on courage and duty, and on the inner moral-psychological response of witnesses when dharma and battlefield necessity collide.
Vaiśampāyana describes Abhimanyu—identified as Subhadrā’s son—charging at Droṇa in battle, and asks the listeners (the Kuru side addressed in context) what they felt at that moment.
