तत्राद्भुतमपश्याम हैडिम्बस्य पराक्रमम् | अतीत्य पितरं युद्धे यदयुध्यत भारत,भारत! वहाँ हमने हिडिम्बापुत्र घटोत्कचका अद्भुत पराक्रम देखा। वह रणक्षेत्रमें पितासे भी बढ़कर पुरुषार्थ प्रकट करते हुए युद्ध कर रहा था
tatrādbhūtam apaśyāma haiḍimbasya parākramam | atītya pitaraṃ yuddhe yad ayudhyata bhārata ||
तत्राद्भुतमपश्याम हैडिम्बस्य पराक्रमम् । अतीत्य पितरं युद्धे यदयुध्यत भारत ॥
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how extraordinary capability can arise from lineage yet exceed it, emphasizing recognition of merit and valor in its own right. Ethically, it underscores the awe and gravity of war, where prowess becomes a decisive and morally weighty force witnessed by all.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that on the battlefield they witnessed the astonishing heroism of Ghaṭotkaca, described as the son of Hiḍimbā, who fought so powerfully that he seemed to surpass even his father (implicitly Bhīma) in martial prowess.
