Even amid overwhelming loss, dharma-oriented counsel redirects the mind from despair to responsible care for what remains—here, the protection of the pregnant Uttarā and the continuation of the family line. The verse frames hope and duty as remedies for paralyzing grief.
In the aftermath of Abhimanyu’s death, the speaker consoles a grieving woman (addressed as “śubhe”) by pointing to Uttarā’s pregnancy and assuring that she will soon bear Abhimanyu’s son—signaling the survival of the Kuru lineage through the child (later known as Parīkṣit).
