Abhimanyu’s Śrāddha; Vyāsa’s Assurance of the Unborn Heir
nūnaṃ ca sa gataḥ svargaṃ jahi śokaṃ mahāmate
The verse teaches ethical composure in bereavement: when a person has met a righteous end and attained svarga, one should restrain debilitating sorrow and return to one’s duties with steadiness.
Vaiśampāyana, narrating the events, offers consolation to a listener addressed as “mahāmate,” asserting that the departed has reached heaven and urging the hearer to abandon grief.
