vānaprasthaiḥ gṛhasthaiś ca yatibhir anbrahmacāribhiḥ | vidyāvaddhiḥ śritāṃ gaṅgāṃ pumān ko nāma nāśrayet ||
वानप्रस्थैर्गृहस्थैश्च यतिभिरथ ब्रह्मचारिभिः । विद्यावद्भिः श्रितां गङ्गां पुमान् को नाम नाश्रयेत् ॥
सिद्ध उवाच
The verse praises Gaṅgā as a universally accepted refuge: across all āśramas (student, householder, forest-dweller, renunciant) and among the learned, her sanctity is acknowledged; therefore one should not neglect sacred means of purification and dharmic support.
A Siddha (a perfected sage) speaks, using a rhetorical question to emphasize Gaṅgā’s exceptional status: since every class of disciplined life seeks her, it is natural for any person to do the same.
