The Pāṇḍavas’ Journey toward Pāñcāla and News of the Svayaṃvara
kānyakubje mahān āsīt pārthivo bharatarṣabha | gādhīti viśruto loke kuśikasyātmasambhavaḥ ||
The verse highlights that social authority and renown are rooted in lineage and inherited duty: a king’s greatness is presented not merely as personal achievement but as continuity of ancestral dharma.
A Gandharva introduces a key figure in the genealogy: King Gādhi of Kānyakubja, identifying him as the true-born son of Kuśika, thereby setting up the background for subsequent events connected to this line.
