Adhyāya 123 — Droṇa’s Pedagogy: Arjuna’s Preeminence, Ekalavya’s Self-Training, and the Bhāsa-Lakṣya Trial
बभूव परमो हर्ष: शतशृड्शनिवासिनाम् | तथा देवनिकायानां सेन्द्राणां च दिवौकसाम्
babhūva paramo harṣaḥ śataśṛṅganivāsinām | tathā devanikāyānāṃ sendrāṇāṃ ca divaukasām |
वैशम्पायन उवाच—शतशृङ्गनिवासिनां तपस्विनां मुनिनां परमो हर्षोऽभवत्। तथैव दिवौकसां देवनिकायानां सेन्द्राणां महोत्सवोऽजायत। तां दिव्यामाकाशवाणीं श्रुत्वा, अद्भुतार्थां धर्मस्यैव प्रतिष्ठामिव मन्यमानाः, सर्वे प्रमुदिता बभूवुः।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how a righteous, divinely sanctioned development brings joy not only to humans but also to sages and gods, suggesting that dharma resonates across the cosmic hierarchy and is affirmed through auspicious signs.
After a wondrous heavenly proclamation is heard, the ascetics living at Śataśṛṅga and the celestial hosts led by Indra experience great delight, indicating that the event being announced is momentous and favorable.
