Pradyumna’s Abduction, Mahā-māyā, and the Slaying of Śambara
mama cāpy ātmajo naṣṭo nīto yaḥ sūtikā-gṛhāt etat-tulya-vayo-rūpo yadi jīvati kutracit
This verse records Rukmiṇī’s remembrance that her infant son was taken from the lying-in chamber, and her realization that if he survived, he would now match the present boy’s age and appearance—setting up the recognition of Pradyumna.
In the narrative of Canto 10, Chapter 55, Rukmiṇī speaks while seeing a young man whose features stir her maternal intuition; she expresses that her stolen son, if alive, would look just like him—hinting at Pradyumna’s identity.
Even amid loss and uncertainty, the Bhagavatam models steady hope and remembrance—trusting that what is meant to be restored by divine arrangement will be revealed in time.
