Umāyāḥ Kriyāyoga-Rahasya
The Esoteric Teaching on Umā’s Kriyāyoga
शिवनाम्नो जपादेव तस्मात्कोटि गुणोत्तरम् । श्रीदेवीनामजापात्तु ततः कोटिगुणोत्तरम्
śivanāmno japādeva tasmātkoṭi guṇottaram | śrīdevīnāmajāpāttu tataḥ koṭiguṇottaram
Одним лишь джапой Имени Шивы плод бывает больше того в крор раз; а джапой благого Имени Деви — ещё в крор раз больше даже этого.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Uma-saṃhitā teaching to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga account; it establishes a soteriological hierarchy of nāma-japa: Śiva-nāma surpasses the previous benchmark, and Devī-nāma surpasses even Śiva-nāma—highlighting Śakti as the immediate bestower of grace in practice.
Significance: Encourages nāma-japa as a direct, accessible sādhana; the verse frames Devī-nāma as exceptionally potent for removing bondage and drawing divine favor.
Mantra: (implied) śiva-nāma-japa; śrī-devī-nāma-japa
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Śrī
Role: liberating
It exalts nāma-japa as a direct, accessible sādhana, teaching that devotion expressed through the divine Name yields immeasurable merit and spiritual upliftment, culminating in grace (anugraha) from Pati (Śiva) through Śakti’s compassionate mediation.
Nāma-japa functions as a Saguna upāsanā: the Name invokes the personal Lord and can accompany Liṅga-pūjā, strengthening bhakti and inner recollection (smaraṇa) even when elaborate ritual is not possible.
Regular mantra/nāma-japa—especially of Śiva’s Name and Devī’s Name—done with purity, steadiness, and devotion; it may be paired with simple Shaiva observances like Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as supportive disciplines.
