महापातकवर्णनम् (Mahāpātaka-varṇanam) — “Description of Great Sins and Their Consequences”
ये द्विषंति महादेवं संसारार्णवतारकम् । सुमहत्पातकं तेषां निरयार्णवगामिनाम्
ye dviṣaṃti mahādevaṃ saṃsārārṇavatārakam | sumahatpātakaṃ teṣāṃ nirayārṇavagāminām
Те, кто ненавидит Махадеву — Перевозчика через океан сансары, — навлекают на себя страшнейший тяжкий грех; такие идут в океан ада (нарака).
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It frames Śiva as Pati—the liberating Lord who helps the bound soul (paśu) cross saṃsāra—and teaches that dveṣa (hatred) toward the liberator becomes a grave spiritual fault that drives one deeper into bondage and suffering.
By calling Śiva the ‘ferryman across saṃsāra,’ it supports Saguna worship—such as Liṅga-pūjā—as a concrete means to turn the mind from hostility and ego to reverence, surrender, and grace-oriented liberation.
Adopt daily Śiva-smaraṇa with the Pañcākṣarī mantra ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya,’ and maintain a non-offensive devotional attitude (aparādha-śūnyatā); if practiced traditionally, support it with vibhūti (tripuṇḍra) and rudrākṣa as reminders of Śiva-bhakti.
